Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 (KJV)
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
The analogy of a tree planted by the waters is a beautiful one as a representation of the believer that trusts in the Lord. Naturally, trees that are by the waters are fruitful; even more the Bible says despite the drought, this tree still is by the waters and never ceases to bear fruit! The tree never has to go through the natural process of shedding its leaves as we know trees usually do when preparing for dry spells, because the dry spell is never a reality to it.
So are believers who trust the Lord; they spread their roots symbolizing the enlarging of their territory and God-given ministry (Isaiah 54:2). When the world around the believer predicts seasons of doom, the believer’s mindset has no place of fear and remains as one planted in the house of the Lord, continuing to flourish and be fruitful (Psalm 92:13, Job 22:29).
Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing
– Psalm 92:13-14 (King James Version Bible)
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
– John 15:4-5 (King James Version Bible)
